My Story
In July of 2011 I Jordan
Supino was struck with the biggest test of my life, how hard was I willing to
get hit and keep fighting, and how much pain was I willing to sacrifice and
endure in my battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. A few nights had passed as
hot and cold sweats combined with major cramping in my legs left me feeling a
way that I had never felt before. Doing what I could to try and shake what was
happening to me, nothing worked and I soon became bed stricken to try and
contain what was progressing. After a few days the pain subsided along with the
sweats, so I decided to make my way to the gym to get my stamina up and feel
good physically again. As I began to work out, my body began to tremble which
led to me partially collapsing as my legs locked up in extreme pain. I ended up
initially staying in the hospital for almost 2 months battling Acute Myeloid
Leukemia along with the very first type of chromosome abnormality in the world
while enduring high dosages of chemotherapy. When I first left the hospital and
had another bone marrow biopsy the cancer was still everywhere and the doctors
urged me that I would need a bone marrow transplant immediately. Surprised by
the news I simply replied to them, "God is going to grant me a miracle and
we're all going to witness it before our eyes. Matched with the power of my
mindset and were going to kill this cancer.” In that moment I asked when I had
to be back in for my next round of chemotherapy and the doctors replied,
"4 1/2 weeks." So I responded with, "On the day before I come
back into the hospital I am going to bench press 500 pounds and push the cancer
out of me in honor of everyone fighting an illness and show them the power of
one’s faith and mindset combined. For 4 1/2 weeks I pushed, pulled, pressed,
walked, talked, and ate cancer, as with every move I made I envisioned the
cancer leaving my body. On the day before I was to go back to the hospital for
my next round of chemotherapy I did exactly what I set out to do. I bench
pressed 500 pounds in honor of everyone fighting for their lives and on the
very next test I was granted my miracle as the cancer was gone.
I now had a nickname "Miracle Man" and for the next 4 months I continued the chemotherapy to ensure the cancer wouldn’t come back and I would remain cancer free. As the hair loss, skin peeling, appetite lost, and weakness of my body came hard, I never gave up. I would get beaten down and get back up just as quick demanding myself to be fully healed. When Christmas came around I had finished my chemotherapy and my family, friends and I celebrated being as I was officially placed in remission of cancer. Little did I not know; a much bigger test was preparing to greet me.
On December 27, 2011 as I woke up to go in for blood and platelets I woke up partially blind with a 107-degree temperature. You see I wasn't supposed to leave the house as I was recovering, but I couldn't imagine showing up to Christmas without gifts for others. So, as I used up all of my strength trying to shop covered up with a facemask, gloves, warm clothes and all I somehow came in contact with germs where I had no platelets to protect me. Therefore, when I got to the hospital I collapsed as I couldn't breathe and the biggest fight for my life had just begun. I ended up in total enduring pneumonia, blood clots, kidney failure, heart failure, liver failure, 8 deadly blood line infections, lungs filled with fluid and blood, full septic shock and into an induced coma for 24 days.
